Hello! Historically there have not been safe options for fire alarm and smoke detectors in medium & high risk spaces. We’ve been doing a little research and discovered that there are a couple of self titled “Ligature Resistant” Detectors in the UK, but haven’t found anything available in the United States. Is anyone aware of a better solution in development for the US market?
Sarah,
We’ve been manufacturing bezels for fire alarms, please see this link: https://accuratelockandhardware.com/product/lr-fab-ligature-resistant-fire-alarm-bezel/
Smoke detectors could be a bit more challenging. The only way I’m thinking it could work would be to create a tapered frame (same idea as the bezel).
By the way, we’ve also furnished dome light covers (see below), card reader covers, panic button covers, and fire extinguisher cabinet handles.
Thank you Monica! I appreciate your response. We are still looking for the best solution for the smoke detectors and the fire alarm strobes (I wasn’t specific enough in the original ask!)
We were asked recently for a ligature resistant design for a fire alarm strobe. The above is a concept but I was wondering if you had come across this need in the past. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thank you
We are very interested in such a solution, which I don’t believe we’ve seen before. Fire Alarm systems are notoriously difficult to mitigate ligature for. I am sharing this with my colleagues who have their heads in Division 28 products.
