Hi Everyone,
I am aware of three manufacturers of operable security windows: Britplas, Vale, and Sherwood. Has anyone used any of these before, and what is your experience? Do you know of any others? To be clear, I’m talking about opening the window to the outdoors - not the window treatments. Thank you.
P.S. It was great spending time with you all in Seattle. Stay well.
The last time I looked, Sherwood was a small, vented area. Britplas is a full horizontal slider where you get a large, vented area. We’ve used them in Vermont and are now using them on our project in Lakewood, WA. They are now being manufactured in the United States (avoiding tarrifs).
Hello Gina. Frank is correct. As accepted by the New York State Office of Mental Health Patient Safety Standards, Materials and System Guideline, the Britplas Safevent window is a horizontal slider [not used by OMH]. Sherwood’s MHW 6200 product is really a combination of 3 products, 1) a curtain wall frame, 2) an inserted interior accessory window / access panel window at fixed lites [sim. to the 2187-DT SEAL window] and 3) an inserted roto-vent / circu-vent type of product for ventilation. I’m unfamiliar with Vale. They appear to be an overseas manufacturer with products similar to Britplas. Not a lot of occupant-operated for ventilation windows on the market.
