Good morning! I found one of the recent research articles featured in Research In a Snap very intriguing (Gardiner, Hartescu, Kinnafick - “Sleep quality in secure psychiatric healthcare: Inpatient & Staff perspectives”)
Nighttime bed checks are identified as a big source of the disturbances. Has anyone learned about any strategies to help reduce the impact of this required function? Our team was discussing it today - quiet latches and intentional night light locations were identified as some helpful interventions, but I’d love to learn what others are doing
Great topic Sarah. Sanctity of sleep is a perennial issue. The operations of bed checks and sleep routines play a large role in these design decisions. A few thoughts to build on yours:
Sarah; A very important topic. we know that circadian rhythm disruptions have many impact on physical wellbeing. There are quite a few articles about it, here’s another for your reference. there are many in the correctional setting as well (which are subject to similar regular checks). sleep quality-EBD-psych patients.pdf (156.3 KB) (let me know if the link doesn’t work and i can send it by email)
